    1. Who is eligible to apply for a grant

    Organizations and agencies in Salisbury and Rowan County who are certified as nonprofit according to the guidelines of the Internal Revenue Service and have been designated as 501(c)3 entities, and government units such as schools and departments or divisions of governmental bodies.

    2. Are grants made to organizations outside Salisbury and Rowan County?

    No.

    3. When are grants made?

    Grants are made once each calender year, in the Spring. The application deadline is usually the last business day of March-either March 30 or March 31. Decisions on the grant application are made in late May.

    4. What is the procedure for making an application?

    An application form is available on this web side and printed versions are available after November 15 in the Rowan Public Library main branch on West Fisher Street, Salisbury and at Wachovia Bank in its main office on South Main Street and at the West Innes Street branch. Applications are also available by E-mail and by U.S. Mail from the Foundation Office. Applicants should follow the directions, sign and return the completed application to the Foundation Office no later than the stated deadline.

    5. What happens after a grant application is submitted?

    Each grant application is reviewed by the Grants Committee, composed of the Founation Board of Directors. After all grants are reviewed, the Grants Committee makes its recommendations to the full Board of Directors, which considers all applications before making final decisions. After the Board meets in late May, Grant applicants are notified by mail of the Board's decision.

    6. When are the grant funds distributed?

    Grant funds are distributed upon written notification to the Foundation that the applicant's program or project is ready and funds are requested to initiate the program.

    7. Are reports required as to how the grant funds are being used?

    Yes. During the year after a grant is awarded, the Foundation requests a written report on how the project or program has fared.

    8.What types of projects does the Foundation not fund?

    The Foundation does not fund programs, individual scholarships or personal projects, individual churches or denominational organizations promoting a particular faith for theology.

    9. Is there a minimum or maximum grant amount?

    No. Grants have ranged from $900 to $1 million. Most grants fall between $10,000 and $35,000.

    10. Are multi-year grants permitted?

    Yes, depending on the grant application, the amount requested, how it is to be applied, etc. Most larger grants are multi-year.
